A night to remember

Back in December, I was given the task of planning a special reception for a special person for a very special award. Working as CPAWS does, myself, CPAWS staff and some dedicated volunteers put their heart and soul into creating an event that would meet the occasion. Finally last night, after weeks of hard work, I had the pleasure of attending the beautiful award reception held at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Ontario, where CPAWS honoured Nikita (Nik) Lopoukhine with the prestigious J.B. Harkin Award for conservation. Nik was honoured for his lifetime of commitment to promoting scientific discussion and ecological integrity within Parks Canada and for championing Canadian conservation and park values globally.

Bison belong in Banff

Today, Environment Minister Peter Kent announced public consultations on the reintroduction of bison in Banff. An important first step to seeing 'the buffalo roam' where they used to. We welcome this announcement.

Our national parks are a public good - not a cash cow

Canada's national parks protect spectacular landscapes and marine environments - offering a haven for wildlife that are under increasing pressure from human threats such as industrial development and global warming. The priority in managing our national parks must continue to be to protect their ecological integrity. Any revenue-generating activities within our parks must be respectful of that mandate.

Will the Grinch Steal your Park this Christmas? Logging may begin over holidays in Alberta protected

As the residents of nearby communities of Beaver Mines and Pincher Creek prepare for the holiday season, concern is growing that up in the mountains of the Castle Special Place the Grinch may be preparing to steal their Park this Christmas. The Castle is just north of Waterton Lakes National Park.

A holiday activity for the whole family

Take part in this fun and festive activity with the entire family. From preschoolers to adults, CPAWS is asking you to send a holiday caribou card to your local Member of Parliament asking them to support protection of the Boreal woodland caribou’s remaining habitat. We’ll pick a different card to be featured on www.cpaws.org each week!
