CPAWS welcomes step forward towards re-introducing bison to Banff National Park

Today, Federal Minister of Environment, the Honourable Peter Kent announced the launch of public consultations for the re-introduction of plains bison to Banff National Park.  Wild bison roamed free in this landscape for thousands of years but have been absent from the park since its creation.  Bringing bison back to Banff is an important step towards restoring the full complement of native species to Banff National Park, and the park's ecological integrity.  The 2010 Banff National Park Management Plan committed to reintroducing bison and CPAWS is pleased to see this work moving forward.
